Michael, who plays bad boy Ross Barton in the Dales, said on ITV's Lorraine that he is doing the mountain trek for charity.
"I am going to be climbing Mount Everest for the Steve Prescott foundation which is from my hometown," Michael told Lorraine Kelly. "We are just going to be trying to raise as much money as possible by climbing one of the biggest mountains in the world."
But how is Michael preparing for the climb?
"Lots of squats, lots of thrusting and stuff like that. I've got Kermit the Frog legs so I need to bulk them out a little bit and put a bit of body fat on so I don't freeze up there.
"It's going to be hard work but luckily two of my best friends are doing it with me so they can drag me up!"
Michael was joined on Lorraine's sofa by co-star Gemma Atkinson, who plays Carly Hope, and the pair of them are gearing up for this week's National Television Awards.
While Emmerdale is nominated for best Serial Drama, Gemma is nominated for best Newcomer and Michael is nominated for best Serial Drama Performance.
