It's the news we were all waiting to hear about - and the news, that deep down, we all knew was coming - but confirmation that Ross is reprising his role as hard man Grant is indeed the best soap news we're probably going to hear this year (and yes, we know 2016 has only just begun).
"Overwhelmed by tweets about Grant's return to @bbceastenders," wrote Ross. "Credit to @dominictc...and have you ever tried saying no to Dame Barbara?!"
Ross' brief return ties in with Dame Barbara Windsor's exit from the soap. Sob! On Friday's episode (15 January), viewers saw legendary soap actress Barbara make a surprise return as Grant and Phil's mother Peggy Mitchell, only to reveal to Phil that she was dying of cancer.
This really will be the end of EastEnders' iconic character Peggy, who will bow out of Walford forever in scenes to transmit in the late spring.
But Peggy's exit was the perfect opportunity to reunite Phil (Steve McFadden) and Grant together, and of course, all of Albert Square's other iconic characters too.
"Looking forward to working with Barbara, Steve, Letitia & all the @bbceastenders [cast]," Ross added.
Meanwhile, executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins, said: 'We are all so excited finally to have Ross back on the Square - and to have Ross Kemp, Barbara Windsor, Steve McFadden, Letitia Dean and Gillian Taylforth all on screen together at the same time as Peggy makes an exit like no other, this promises to be something very special."
Ross first appeared in EastEnders in 1990. He left in 1999 but has since made a couple of brief returns to the show.
