Matthew Perry won't be appearing in the upcoming Friends 'reunion'.

It was announced this week that fans will see the stars of the popular US sitcom - which ran from 1994 until 2004 - reunite on screen. Only it won't be for any new episodes, but as part of a two-hour tribute to celebrate the achievements of TV director James Burrows.

However, Matthew, who played Chandler Bing, is busy rehearsing for his new play The End of Longing in London so he won't be appearing.

A rep for Matthew told Us Weekly: "Regarding Matthew Perry and the James Burrows tribute, Matthew will not be attending, as he is in London in rehearsals for his play.

"NBC executives were aware of this prior to their TCA announcement yesterday. Matthew may tape something for the tribute. In other words, this is not the reunion people have been hoping for."

Fans will see the remaining cast, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer in the special on US TV on 21 February, talking about the achievements of Burrows.

However, NBC bosses already said they weren't sure if all of them would be in the same room.

"I'm hoping all six will be in same room at the same time," said Bob Greenblatt from NBC. "I'm not sure we can logistically can pull it off."
