Alex Reid has accused ex-wife Katie Price of sending a "damaging" message following her remarks on transgender and cross-dressing this week.

Katie spoke about the issues during her guest panelist appearance on Loose Women as part of a wider discussion on Eddie Redmayne's new movie The Danish Girl.

That film tells the story of a male artist believed to be one of the world's first recipients of a sex change operation. Katie had said she was looking forward to seeing the movie as she felt she'd been through a similar experience.

That led her to discuss Alex's cross-dressing and add: "If he does end up being a transgender it wouldn't surprise me." The panel were quick to say cross-dressing and transgender are two different things, which Katie did agree with.

Now, her former husband has had his say in a statement to BANG Showbiz – and said he has "no intention at any point" of transitioning into a woman.

"Katie Price's comments have a wide and very damaging reach, potentially inciting hate and prejudice against the trans community," he said.

The cagefighter criticised what he deemed Katie's "ignorance towards what it is to be a cross-dresser, as opposed to being transgender" and said her comments that she tried to get him help were inappropriate.

"In suggesting I 'needed help' and that such help was offered and denied, further highlights how little she understands of the fundamental natural of someone who cross-dresses."

Alex, 35, also said he was disappointed by the "sniggering and coquettish giggling" during the discussion as he felt it made light of what should be a serious issue.

After the statement was published, the former Celebrity Big Brother star posted a meme of Eddie Izzard to Twitter with the words: "Why do you wear women's clothes? They're not women's clothes. They're my clothes. I buy them."

He also tweeted: "I'm asked 4 my advice & support daily, this is my 1st response! Just love ur self, wot ever u r, then relax and be wot ever u feel like."

Alex and Katie married in 2010 but split the following year.
