Taking to Instagram, Cheryl shared a new black and white selfie, telling fans "it is on" for 2016.
In her photo, Cheryl can be seen lying across a bed, with her hair piled into a top knot as she posed for the camera. Hinting that she has been having some time to think while taking some time off, Cheryl posted several emojis of thought bubbles alongside her post, adding the caption: "Think it's time for the.. Studio!!! It is [on] 2016..."
Cheryl's last musical release was her album Only Human in 2014, that includes two of her number one singles 'Crazy Stupid Love' and 'I Don't Care'.
The 32-year-old had teased that she was planning to release more music at the end of the last year.
After wrapping up The X Factor's twelfth series that was won by Louisa Johnson, Cheryl revealed her plans to head back into the studio, but admitted she isn't sure how long it will take to finally get her new stuff out there.
She said: "I'll be starting new music in the New Year. I'm just looking forward to a little break after The X Factor and Christmas dinner before getting started."
"I don't know how long the process will take," she admitted. "It will depend on how inspired I am to start songwriting or whether I get sent the right tracks, but I'm looking forward to getting back into the studio soon."
Cheryl's confirmation she will be back in the studio comes after she concerned fans with a cryptic Instagram post recently.
Taking to the photo-sharing app on New Year's Eve, Cheryl told fans she was "happy to see the back of 2015."
She shared a shot of herself kissing her middle finger, along with the caption: "Bye 2015.. you've been real!!!!! You have taught me a lot but I am happy to see the back of you!!"
Her post came amid speculation her marriage to husband Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini is on the rocks.
Reports claim she and JB are leading 'increasingly separate lives' with the language barrier between them becoming difficult.
Cheryl has so far declined to comment on the speculation, while JB has previously denied rumours of marriage trouble. He said: "Normally don't read or comment... But the truth is that even when my dad died I put my life on the line for my wife... My priority is my wife as this is the last person that is family."
"This is just nonsense," he added. "What matters is family and my wife is my only one left so if she need me I am always going to be there. My wife Cheryl is my priority nothing else."
