EastEnders star Lacey Turner has said she doesn't really know why she's a TV actress because she can't stand being the centre of attention.

Lacey, who plays Stacey Branning in the BBC One soap, is set to have another leading storyline as the soap goes into the New Year.

"I still don't understand why I do it [acting on TV] because it frightens the life out of me," she told Fabulous magazine. "I hate everything about it because I'm just not 'that' person. I'm quite shy and I honestly don't know why I put myself through it.

"But I guess it's too late now because I haven't got any other qualifications! I always wanted to be a hairdresser. Maybe one day I'll do that..."

Lacey first appeared on 'Enders in 2004. She left in 2010 after feeling "really tired" and just wanting a "break".

It's going to be another huge storyline for Stacey this Christmas...

During that time, Lacey's acting credits included Bedlam, Switch and Our Girl before returning to EastEnders as Stacey in 2013.

It's set to be another dramatic Christmas for Stacey. Following the birth of her baby boy, Stacey develops postpartum psychosis (PP), which is an extreme form of mental illness after childbirth. She is also still harbouring the secret that Kush and not Martin is actually the father of her baby.

Lacey said she intends on watching the Christmas episode, but won't actually watch any scenes of herself.

"I don't watch myself, it's horrible," she said. "You look at yourself and say: 'Why am I pulling that face?' But we always watch EastEnders together at Christmas. Having said that, last year there was a battle for bloody Frozen and that won, so we had to watch it later."
