Josh, who was mentored by Nick Grimshaw, narrowly missed out on a place in the top 12 following the Judges' Houses stage of the competition.
Josh was an early favourite on the show having made Simon Cowell cry in an emotional audition as he sung Labrinth's 'Jealous' in a tribute to a late friend.
And, Radio 1 DJ Nick even predicted Josh to win in an early prediction he made on The Xtra Factor.
But now, it's been reported that Josh is working with Jay Z's label Roc Nation, and is currently recording new music for his debut album.
A source told The Sun: "Josh was crushed by his unexpected X Factor departure, but it's been a blessing in disguise. As much as he would have loved to have Simon as a boss, to be at Roc Nation, with an icon like Jay Z running the show, is a huge deal."
"He's recording with Roc Nation here and in the US in preparation for his debut album."
Josh appeared to confirm that the reports were indeed true as he responded to messages of congratulations from fans and fellow X Factor contestants including Bupsi and Che Chesterman.
Despite missing out on the live shows, Josh has been treating fans to covers of songs on his YouTube account, which has been racking up impressive video views.
