As Rita stood alongside her act Louisa Johnson following their duet, she said: "I'm so proud of her. I've watched this show and I've been such a fan of this show.
"But there's only two people in my opinion that have made this impression - and that's Leona and Louisa."
Of course, many took to Twitter to air their views on the comment, as show co-host and X Factor alumni Olly - who was runner-up in the sixth series of the talent show in 2009 - stood alongside her.
Now, Olly has revealed he received a text from Rita apologising - but he says he wasn't at all offended by her comment.
Olly, 31, told The Mirror: "Bless Rita, she text me saying: 'I'm really sorry if I've offended you.'"
'Troublemaker' singer Olly said he didn't actually know what she was talking about at first, but once he realised, he wanted to assure her that she had done nothing wrong.
He continued: "I said: 'Rita, are you serious? As if I'd get offended. I know exactly what you were trying to say. You don't need to justify it.' She was so apologetic, but I was like: 'Rita, I'm not even annoyed.'
"We all knew what Rita was saying. We were drinking in the corridors, having a laugh together on Sunday. Then the next day, she was texting me saying: 'Are you OK?'"
