The TOWIE matriarch posted a short message to Twitter saying: "So sad to see mummy leave us. She was an amazing, kind, loving person who cared for everyone. She was my best friend."
A statement released by the family said: "Sadly our amazing, courageous and beautiful Nanny Pat passed away this morning after a short illness. We are overwhelmed by sadness, and the whole family ask for privacy at this horrible time."
Nanny Pat – real name Patricia Brooker – had been an integral part of The Only Way Is Essex since series one and was beloved to both cast and viewers.
Dozens of TOWIE stars of past and present paid tribute via Twitter, including Lauren Goodger, Chloe Sims, Mario Falcone and Gemma Collins. Nanny Pat's grandchildren Mark, Jessica and Elliott Wright also shared their memories and grief.
Mark said: "My heart is broken but so overwhelmed by your support. To know good ole Nanny was loved by so many is the best feeling in the world Thank you."
Jess echoed those sentiments by saying: "Heart broken does not even come close to how my family & I are feeling. Thank you so much for your support my Nan was so loved, an angel."
Elliott said: "Thank you for you kind supportive words.. She was an angel an will be sorely missed she wasn't just nanny pat to us she was to the nation."
TOWIE paid tribute to Nanny Pat on last night's The Only Way Is Essexmas episode by including an 'In Memory Of' card in the end credits.
