Mason - even though he decided to shun The X Factor final - was feeling all nostalgic about his time on the show as it came to an end over the weekend, and sharing his highlight, he couldn't resist playfully mocking Liam while doing so.
Although, his joke didn't go down too well with 1D's legion of followers...
Taking to Instagram, Mason shared a photo of himself and Liam that had been taken while he was still competing on The X Factor.
Alongside it, Mason cheekily said: "One of the highlights of my experience, meeting one of Harry Styles backing singers @onedirection #XfactorFinal #onedirection."
While he did add a winking emoji to imply his comment was tongue-in-cheek, it did little to stop Liam' fans hitting out at the aspiring singer.
One user commented: "That's really rude man." While another said: "He literally just made the biggest mistake of his life."
His post got quite the reaction on Twitter too...

Known for being controversial on The X Factor, this isn't the first time Mason has caused a bit of an uproar. His Six Chair Challenge won't be forgotten in a hurry.
After performing for the crowd and the judges, Mason complained about the amount of air time he had been given so far, leading Simon Cowell to brand him an "ar*ehole". Told if he didn't like it, he should leave, Mason then stormed off stage after dropping his mic.
However, that wasn't the last viewers saw of him as he was shockingly brought back by Nick Grimshaw, after Tom Bleasby quit the X Factor ahead of Judges' Houses. Mason then went on to make the live shows, before being voted out of the competition in week four.
Over the weekend, Mason hit the headlines again, after refusing to appear on The X Factor final. A source told our friends at Digital Spy: "He just didn't turn up."
Taking to Twitter to address his absence, Mason cryptically tweeted: "I stand for what I believe in #AWE."
His tweet comes after he admitted he was "relieved" to have left the show in seventh place.
