Contestants from the series always return for the final show to sing a group song, but while everyone was performing 'Downtown' on stage, Mason was nowhere to be seen.
Addressing his no-show, Mason cryptically tweeted: "I stand for what I believe in #AWE."
A source told our colleagues over at Digital Spy: "He just didn't turn up."
Mason was a controversial contestant on this year's show. He caused uproar during the Six Chair Challenge for complaining about lack of airtime for his previous audition.
Simon Cowell blasted him a "complete a*sehole" and the confrontation led Mason to drop his mic on the stage and walk off.

However, after Nick Grimshaw's contestant Tom Bleasby quit, Nick decided to bring back Mason to the Judges' Houses stage of the competition. Mason was successful, and was taken through to the live shows. He was eliminated in week four.
Following his exit, Mason summed up his emotions in a single tweet, saying: "RELIEVED."
Clarifying his tweet on Good Morning Britain, Mason said: "When you're in that bubble, it's a great opportunity for everyone. It gives you such a great platform and I'm grateful for that. People that know me knows that it wasn't completely me."
Last month, Mason unveiled his new track 'Boyfriend' to fans.
