According to The Sun, the music mogul wants to make the event extra special for 1D as the X Factor stage is where their journey began, and from February next year they will be on hiatus.
An insider told the paper that Simon is wary this could be the band's last ever performance so he's pulling out all the stops including asking superstars like Mariah Carey and Will Ferrell to record video messages.
Last ever performance? Don't say that!
One Direction announced in August that they will temporarily part ways next year after promoting their fifth album, Made In The AM. Their final concert before splitting was October in Sheffield.
The band – Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson – have all insisted the break is just temporary and they will return in the future, much to fans' relief.
Niall said at the time: "Ok so Lots of rumours going round. We are not splitting up, but we will be taking a well earned break at some point next year. Don't worry though, we still have lots we want to achieve ! Can't wait for you to hear all the new music we have for you and to perform. Some new songs as the tour continues! Love you all."
The in October, Louis said: "We don't yet [know how long the break will last]. We don't really want to put a time on it because then that puts pressure on us, and we're just going to enjoy this time to do what we want to do."
Zayn Malik left One Direction in March.
