ITV announced the shock news this morning that Lady C had left the camp on medical grounds, leaving tonight's public votes cancelled.
Speaking on Lorraine this morning, Chris said of Lady C's exit: "I'm as shocked, stunned and surprised as you.
"While I was there, I was more her carer. She's fragile, she's 66. The terrain is treacherous. I mean, for instance at the creek, where we did the washing one day, it only takes one fall for her to actually be in real trouble so therefore I was always caring for her."
Lady C's agent has since confirmed that the 66-year-old suffered a fall in the jungle, but also claimed that Lady C felt she was being "bullied" by two members of the camp.
Speaking about Lady C's conflicts in camp, Chris added: "I was brought up at a time where we had to respect our elders, so I see her as a mother figure. Now, the vitriol that she has used against some of the campmates, I can't defend that.
"It's a conundrum because I'm her carer but at the same time it looked as though I was her ally, of which I was, but not when she said particular things."
Chris became the fourth celebrity to be voted out on Tuesday's show.
