Despite his name being linked with the movie franchise for some years now, it heightened in 2014 when a leaked email with Sony heads revealed Idris had been named as a potential Bond candidate.
Just about everyone had an opinion on it, and even Idris joked about it at first, but in a new interview with The Telegraph, he revealed that he is now fed up of all the Bond talk.
"Because it feels like I'm campaigning, and I'm not," Idris told the interviewer. "At first it was harmless – oh, I know, wouldn't it be great? – and now it's started off racial debates.
"I'm probably the most famous Bond actor in the world, and I've not even played the role. Enough is enough. I can't talk about it any more."
But he would make a pretty great Bond though, right?!
Fans of Idris won't have to wait long to see him back on screen. The actor has reprised his role as DCI John Luther for the fourth series of BBC One crime drama Luther, which will be a two-part special.
Luther returns on 15 December.
