Rain lashed down on the celebrities, thunder rumbled, lightning struck and the camp lost power, as the storm hovered above the jungle.
Scenes shown on last night's episode of the ITV programme showed the camp plunged into complete darkness aside from the campfire glow. Tony Hadley described the thunder and lightning as the worst he had ever heard.
Producers then informed the camp via loudspeaker: "Celebrities, security will now escort you to Bush Telegraph because of the extreme storm conditions."
Vicky Pattison said: "Nobody knew what to do. Thunder was rumbling, lightning was striking and it was quite scary."
Elsewhere, Ferne McCann and Jorgie Porter had been in the middle of a trial away from camp, but producers stepped in to end the task early and send the stars back to camp to join the others at the Bush Telegraph.
The show's executive producer Tom Gould told The Mirror that the crew had experienced bad weather during the trial run, before the celebrities arrived in camp.
"It was the wettest dry run we've ever had. In the whole time I've been in Australia, I've never seen anything like it. It did not stop raining. It didn't flood, but it was horrible and the creek was really high, "It's amazing how the creek turns from something quite gentle into a torrent going through camp when the rain comes down. It was genuinely scary. It was scary for even some of the crew. Trying to film in that environment with no let-up at all, you're completely exposed wherever you're filming. It was hard. It was a really, really tough few days."
Eek. Ant & Dec did tell viewers, however, that everyone in camp was okay.
On last night's show, Brian Friedman became the second celebrity to be evicted from camp, following Susannah Constantine's departure on Friday evening.
