Apparently Simon decided a phone ban would help "boost the confidence" of the show's hosting double-act, as he doesn't think them reading negative comments from Twitter trolls and the like, will do much to help with their nerves.
Makes sense, but what will Olly and Caroline do in the ad breaks if scrolling through Instagram isn't an option?! We literally have no suggestions.
A source told the Daily Mirror: "Cowell wants Olly and Caroline to focus on the task at hand. He told Olly he has his complete support, as he wants to boost his confidence.
"Reading negative comments is not going to do anything except make them feel more nervous, so he has told them to leave their phones until after the show.
"But judges Nick Grimshaw, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Rita Ora are always tweeting about their acts, to get support."
Simon's decision isn't a random one however, it comes after Olly revealed he smashed his phone after looking on Twitter following his live blunder. During the results show two weeks ago, Olly accidentally told Monica Michael that she would be going home before reading out the results from the public vote.
Speaking about coming face to face with the public stream of comments on Twitter, he admitted he lost his cool, saying:: "I went on Twitter for two seconds and threw my phone. I got a massive crack. But you can't listen to that rubbish."
Well, now he literally can't listen to that rubbish.
