Katie Hopkins has publicly thanked a black cab driver who helped her, after suffering an epileptic fit that left her face injured.

The Celebrity Big Brother star, who has previously spoken of how she suffers from epilepsy, revealed that she became unwell yesterday (19 November) and emergency services had to be called, after she damaged her face.

She had suffered a fit which led to her falling onto the pavement, but after being treated by medics at the scene, Katie has taken to Twitter to say she is ok and thanked the cabbie who called for help.

Taking to the social media site, she tweeted: "To @joejohnpayne for calling & London Ambulance for coming. I thank you. Gas & air + a side order of smashed face."

She then added: "London's black cabs - the second emergency service. Thank you. #saveourblackcabs."

Joe, the taxi driver, soon replied telling the controversial TV personality that he hopes she is feeling better. He said: "@KTHopkins hope u feel ok . I'm Joe the London black cabbie who phoned the ambulance for u today and waited with you until it came x."

At the time, Katie didn't explain how she had got hurt, but later confirmed in an article for the Mail Online that she had suffered an epileptic fit.

She also shared a photo of herself following the accident, showing the extent of the damage to her face - which she described as: "Face smashed, teeth wobbly and lips the size of a Kardashian's."

In her piece, Katie told readers she was touched by how kind passers by had been to her, stopping to make sure she was ok. She thanked onlookers for shielding herself and medics from the rain.

While some took Katie's injury as a chance to hit out at the star on Twitter, many others made sure to offer her their well wishes.

One user said: "I really Hope you are feeling okay now?." While another commented: "Well done that man! Wishing you a speedy recovery Katie :)."

News of Katie's accident comes as she prepares to make her TV return. She will star in a new one-off documentary special, Fat Story 1 Year On, continuing her crusade against Britain's obesity issue.
