According to the show's host Ryan Seacrest, talks are underway to get original judges Simon, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson back on the panel for the last-ever series.
We SO want this to happen!
Ryan told Access Hollywood: "I've spoken to all of them recently and we as a team have talked to them about coming back to do something for the final season. They are going to do it it's just a matter of figuring what to do with them."
That reiterates what Paula said back in July, when she told James Corden on his TV show: "I know that Fox is trying to figure out if maybe the original three would come back for maybe a day or so, I don't know."
Simon, Paula and Randy were the original judges who kicked off American Idol on US TV screens back in 2002. They continued as a trio until series eight, when singer-songwriter Kara DioGuardi joined as a fourth judge.
Then, gradually Simon, Paula and Randy all left the show. The current judging lineup is Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr and Keith Urban.
It was announced in May that American Idol had been cancelled by Fox and would end after its 15th series. The show was created by Spice Girl's manager Simon Fuller and catapulted Simon Cowell to US stardom.
American Idol contestants to have found success after the show include Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Adam Lambert and Jordin Sparks.
