This won't be music to Directioners' ears! In a recent interview with Fader magazine, Zayn confessed that he wanted to leave the group for the entire five years the boys were together.
Speaking about his decision to leave the band half way through their 'On The Road Again Tour' back in March this year, the 22-year-old said he wanted to be back home with his family: "I just wanted to go home from the beginning. I was always thinking it. I just didn't know when I was going to do it."
Zayn also revealed that his decision to quit was spontaneous, saying: "It just felt right on that day. I woke up on that morning and was like, 'I need to go home. I just need to be me now, because I've had enough'.
"I was with my little cousin at the time — we were sat in the hotel room — and I just said, 'Should I go home?' And he was like, 'If you want to go home, let's go home'. So we left."
Zayn's former bandmate, Liam Payne, has previously suggested that the whole boyband thing "wasn't really his bag".
In the same interview, Zayn also addressed his split from former fiancée Perrie Edwards, and shut down rumours that he'd dumped her by text, saying: "I have more respect for Perrie than to end anything over text message. I love her a lot, and I always will."
