Forget earning a salary for your work, it seems the Irish judge is so desperate to get back on the show he's willing to pay Simon Cowell for the chance to do just that!
At this stage we should clarify: it was all in the name of charity!
Louis was among the stars attending last night's glitzy Music Industry Awards at the Grosnevor Hotel in London, where Simon was honoured for his contributions to music and entertainment as well as charitable causes.
As part of the event, there was a charity auction in which guests could bid for the chance to visit the X Factor studios during an upcoming live show rehearsal and act as a judge.
Generous Louis ended up winning with a £20,000 bid!
We really, really hope that airs on TV!
According to reports from the event, head judge Simon looked a tad surprised by Louis' interest in that particular auction prize but ended up laughing when Louis won.
Louis was axed from the X Factor judging panel earlier this year after serving on every single panel since the show's inception.
He did, however, jokingly return in an advert for the new series, playing a janitor at a factory where Simon churned out X Factor wannabes and future popstars.
Louis and Simon are known to be firm friends – despite the bickering on screen! – and recent rumours have suggested Louis could return to the show in some official capacity later this series, although that's not been confirmed.
