As widely expected, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians and I Am Cait star was among those announced on Thursday (29 October) as recipients of the glossy mag's latest Women of the Year Awards.
In an interview with The AP, the mag's editor-in-chief Cindi Leive said of criticism about Caitlyn's inclusion: "[It] certainly gives you an appreciation for the hostility to the trans community that still exists out there."
She continued to say that the award recipients are "as diverse as the population of women in this world," adding: "We're proud of that and we're proud of what Caitlyn Jenner has done to illuminate what so many in the trans community go through."
Caitlyn, 66, was chosen for her work raising awareness of the transgender community. She transitioned from Bruce to Caitlyn earlier this year, and has spoken openly about that transition both in interviews and through her E! docuseries I Am Cait, which was recently renewed for a second series.
Other famous faces including in this year's Women of the Year list are Reese Witherspoon, for her work sourcing and producing movies with strong female leads, and Victoria Beckham, for her successful fashion brand and philanthropic work.
Amy Schumer will host the awards on 9 November, while Ellie Goulding is among the performers.
