Ahead of auditioning for The X Factor, Mason had hit out at Cheryl on the social media site last year. In a now deleted tweet he had questioned: "How is Cheryl in the music business, let alone a judge...?"
As news of his tweet came to light, Mason took the opportunity to apologise to Cheryl live on air during X Factor's Judges' Houses results show last night (25 October). And respecting his decision to do so, Cheryl has said she accepts Mason's apology and has forgiven him for his harsh ciritque.
Last night, Mason found himself with a place in the live shows after he became one of Nick's final three boys to go through.
The hopeful - who was controversially brought back into the competition after complaining about his airtime during the Six Chair Challenge - impressed Grimmy and Mark Ronson with his rendition of Robin Thicke's 'Live Without You' during the Judges' Houses stage.
He had said he was "humbled" to be back and found himself shocked when Nick picked him as his first finalist. Met with boos, Mason still has a way to go to win over the crowd, after insulting Simon Cowell and his team, but he started by making amends with Cheryl.
Choosing not to directly reference his tweets, Mason simply addressed Cheryl after Nick chose Sean Miley Moore and Che Chesterman to join him in the lives. He said: "Just quickly, I want to say Cheryl I'm sorry and I love you."
Following the show, Cheryl (who had picked her top three, 4th Impact, Reggie 'N' Bollie and Alien Uncovered the night before) was asked about Mason. Speaking to Good Morning Britain, she appeared to accept his apology, telling the breakfast show: "Everybody does and says things in the heat of the moment.
"The fact that he was man enough to do that live on air, I respect him for it. Him and I will talk. He's a super talented guy."
