Kerry Katona's estranged husband George Kay has been charged with assaulting her at their home in East Sussex.

The personal trainer is accused of assault by beating and unlawful possession of a stun gun at the former couple's property on 3 October.

A police spokesperson said: "Just after 6pm on Saturday, October 3, police were called to an address […] to a report that a 35-year-old woman had allegedly been assaulted. George Kay, 35, a labourer of […] Warrington, answered bail on Saturday evening and was charged with assault by beating and possession of a prohibited weapon."

He is scheduled to appear at Brighton Magistrates' Court on 26 November.

Neither George nor Kerry has commented.

The couple split days after the altercation, with a statement saying: "It is with deep sadness that Kerry announces the end of her marriage to George Kay. Her focus now will be on her gorgeous children."

They first met as teenagers in Warrington but romance didn't blossom until they met again as adults. George proposed to Kerry in front of her kids in Blackpool in 2013 but later said he'd always fancied her. "I've always loved her, I think, from very early on," he said. "I've always thought she is beautiful and great to be around."

Atomic Kitten's Kerry and former rugby league player George married at a star-studded ceremony at Totworth Court Hotel near Bristol in September 2014. Guests included Michelle Heaton, Katie Price and Mel B's sister Danielle Brown.

Kerry gave birth to the couple's daughter Dylan Jorge in April 2014. She's also mum to daughters Molly and Lilly-Sue from her marriage to Brian McFadden and son Max and daughter Heidi from her marriage to taxi driver Mark Croft.
