Earlier today, it was revealed that Zooey had chosen Elsie Otter as the moniker for her baby girl and while we can't help but love her adorable name choice, we were a little puzzled on initially hearing 'Otter' was included.
Now, Zooey has explained the reasoning behind her daughter's name while appearing on NBC News' TODAY to promote her new movie, Rock The Kasbah. She simply said: "We just really liked the name Elsie and we both love otters."
Sharing her love for otters, Zooey then added: "They're very sweet and they're also smart... They hold hands while they sleep, there's so many amazing things about otters. They're wonderful animals."
When the news anchors asked if her baby girl happens to like otters too, Zooey joked: "I love otters, my husband loves otters, so she better love otters.
"We don't know yet, she's only three months old! But she's going to love them."
Zooey's name reveal comes three months after she welcomed her first child with Jacob. A rep for the US actress confirmed that Zooey and Jason had become parents back in August, announcing that the pair had also married in the lead up to their baby's birth.
Releasing a statement on Elsie's arrival, they said: "I am thrilled to confirm that Zooey Deschanel and her husband Jacob Pechenik are new parents to a beautiful healthy baby girl."
"Husband" - Zooey definitely kept that one on the down low, right?
