More than 14 million people tuned in to BBC One on Wednesday night to watch Nadiya Hussain being crowned the winner over Tamal Ray and Ian Cumming.
A peak of 14.5 million people tuned in, with an average of 13.4 million viewers watching as the bakers whipped up their last signature dish, technical challenge and showstopper.
Those impressive figures made Bake Off the most-watched show of the year so far, pushing the Britain's Got Talent finale into second place.
Nadiya, a mother of three from Leeds, had been the bookies' favourite to win, but the news came as a surprise to her. She proclaimed: "I will never put boundaries on myself ever again or say I can't do it. I'm never going to say I don't think I can; I can and I will."
