Seriously. No joke!
While we do love Rumer and Ashley, we can't imagine anyone playing Serena and Blair other than the actresses who finally got the parts, Blake Lively and Leighton Meester.
But in an interview with Buzzfeed, casting director for The CW David Rapaport spoke about what could have been when it came to the iconic teen TV show.
He said: " I think the network initially pitched us Ashley Olsen and Rumer Willis for Blair and Serena — I love Rumer, she's grown into quite an amazing actress and person, but that, to me, was based on protecting the investment of a television show where creatively, these lesser-known girls really captured the essence of the show and carried it for six years."
David said that Blake was always his first choice for Serena, although the network originally felt she was too "sunny California" to play the Upper East Side teenager.
His solution? Straighten her hair and tape her audition again! And it worked!" I was terrified we wouldn't get her or they wouldn't like her because, honestly, they show lived and died on her and I had absolutely no other ideas."
As for Leighton, he said she came in and "owned" her audition in an oh-so-Blair way. "Leighton wasn't a bitch when she came in, but she wasn't overly nice or overly generous," he recalled. "She was professional and she did the job and played the role well, and what I liked about her is that she owned who she was. She wasn't going to kiss everyone's ass and that was very Blair."
He added: "Ultimately they were the best actors for it and brought something really special to their roles."
Based on the books of the same name, Gossip Girl ran on The CW network in the US from 2007 until 2012. It aired on ITV2 in the UK.
Now, the whole series is on Netflix so we can watch it again and again and again to our hearts' content!
