Last year's X Factor winner Ben Haenow has revealed a song penned by British singing sensation Ed Sheeran didn't make the cut.

Say what?!

Ben has been busy spending the last year working on new material for his debut album, and he spent a lot of that time in Los Angeles writing new songs.

The former van driver has now revealed that a song penned by singer-songwriter Ed surprisingly failed to make the cut.

Ben wrote a massive 70 songs for his album, and of the 14 tracks that have made the cut, only two of them don't have his name on the writing credits.

Speaking to The Sun, Ben said: "It's brave and stupid. I wanted to write my own stuff and get it on there. He [Ed] sent a song for us to look at. I did think, 'This isn't going on the album? Is this the stupidest thing I've ever done?'"

But 'Thinking Out Loud' singer Ed, who has dominated the music charts for the past four years, shouldn't feel offended.

Ben, who actually duetted with Ed in the final of X Factor last year, continued: "I don't mean any disrespect to Ed by not taking it on. I'll have to take him out for dinner to apologise."

This week, Ben revealed his second single called 'Second Hand Heart' will feature US star Kelly Clarkson.

Ben won the 11th series of The X Factor last year and earned a Christmas number one with debut single, 'Something I Need', which was a OneRepublic cover.
