Yep, really. The Oscar-nominated actor could be adopting a Cockney accent, swanning round the Queen Vic and getting pally with Phil Mitchell.
The Sherlock star has told the soap's producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins that he'll do a cameo role as soon as he has a spare moment in between filming all those blockbusters.
"I want Benedict Cumberbatch to come and do a turn," said Dominic at the Radio Times festival.
"He says he'll come and do it, but he's slightly busy. But he would be my dream."
The cameo isn't as unlikely as it first sounds, because it turns out Benedict went to school with the EastEnders producer.
Dominic explained the pair even starred alongside each-other in the school productions, and his mum predicted Benedict's huge success from an early age: "We were doing a performance, As You Like It. He was Rosalind, I was Audrey the Country Wench.
"I ran up to my mum and said, 'Mum, mum, mum, was that any good?' and she said: 'Yeah, yeah, yeah, you were fine.
"That's an actor [alluding to Cumberbatch]. He's going to be the next Olivier.'" Called it!
We can't wait to see Benedict come strolling into Walford. His Sherlock wardrobe might look a bit out of place, but that's nothing a quick trip to the market stall won't sort!
