Although we're loving all the revamped X Factor antics this year, the ITV talent show could follow in the footsteps of One Direction with a hiatus. What we'd do with our Saturday nights is a total mystery.
Despite shaking things up this time round with new judges Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora, and Olly Murs and Caroline Flack replacing host Dermot O'Leary, reception has been lukewarm in some quarters.
The X Factor's executive producer Richard Holloway admitted the show could be rested aka go off air for a while *sob* in order to be brought back stronger. A bit like when you go on holiday then come back to work all energised and 'glowing'.
According to Billboard, Richard said: "[X Factor] will have a finite life span. But I think you then rest it, then you bring it back."
"As long as we produce the show to a standard, which the public really, really wants to see... then there is no reason why we can't produce it for years and years and years.
"I think it could run for many, many years. It's our most profitable show," he added.
Well on the bright side we could use all those potential X Factor free Saturday nights to nail a knockout audition and become stars of the comeback show. A few years should be just enough time to develop a decent singing voice, right?
