She was known before the show for her work with alternative rock band, Happy Mondays, from 1991 to 2000. Then she reached an even bigger audience when she auditioned for The X Factor in 2004.
Mentored by Simon Cowell, the singer was one of the biggest personalities on the first ever series of the show and was well remembered for her powerhouse vocals.
Competing in the show alongside the likes of G4, Tabby Callaghan, Voices with Soul and the show's winner Steve Brookstein, Rowetta finished up in fourth place.
Following the talent show, Rowetta released an album, took on various musical theatre roles, did radio presenting and reunited with Happy Mondays.
Now, Rowetta is gearing up to star in Singing in the Rainforest, a documentary on Watch about music acts collaborating with tribes around the world.
Alongside her Happy Monday bandmates, the singer finds herself making new music with the Emberá Drúa village in Panama. It's sure to be a inspirational visit, as viewers will also follow the quests of Myleene Klass, Busted star Charlie Simpson, Glasvegas and Scouting For Girls, who also star in the documentary.
Singing in the Rainforest starts Monday (14 September) at 9pm on Watch.
