Cheryl Fernandez-Versini is loving having Rita Ora on The X Factor judging panel with her, insisting the pair are "having a lot of fun together".

As The X Factor returns this weekend, viewers are eager to see new judges Nick Grimshaw and Rita in action. It's been said the newcomers are fitting in just perfectly and both Rita and Cheryl have teased their new friendship on social media for fans to see.

Rita has previously said she and Cheryl "kicked it off straight away" when they first met and now Cheryl has opened up on why she loves the 'Body On Me' singer so much.

Speaking at the official X Factor launch in London earlier this week, Cheryl said: "She's really fun to work with... Rita is the funniest person when it comes to metaphors.

"I've never heard anybody express the way they feel [in] the way that Rita does through metaphors. It's a unique quality, it's very charming and I dare say I'm going to use a few of them in the future."

Hinting that Rita is enjoying being around Cheryl just as much as she is her, the 32-year-old added: "Rita has actually been someone I have been able to guide. She's enjoying being with another female because she didn't get that experience on the spinning chair show..."

Rita was originally a celebrity coach on The Voice (the BBC's singing contest) before jumping ship to join The X Factor. There she was the only female on the panel, joining Sir Tom Jones, Ricky Wison and will.i.am.

Cheryl's comments about her co-star come after Simon crediting Rita for making Cheryl "so much happier".

The 55-year-old has said Cheryl is the happiest she has ever been this time round on The X Factor, and he thinks that is down to her blossoming friendship with Rita.

"I've got to be honest with you... [Cheryl is] a completely different person this year," he revealed.

"I said to her the other night, 'You've got your mojo back'. She's really enjoying being on this show," he added. "It's not like a job, she's enjoying it and I think that's got a lot to do with Rita.

"They have helped each other and it feels like they have known each other a long time. [Rita is] incredibly welcoming and after they had their first meeting Cheryl called me and said, 'Oh my god, I think she's really cool, I like her'."

The X Factor will return to screens this Saturday 29 August and Sunday 30 August.
