It seems X Factor's Nick Grimshaw may have Cheryl Fernandez-Versini to thank for his spot on the show's judging panel, as Simon Cowell has revealed it was her who dropped his name into the mix.

The X Factor officially launched earlier this week and press (including Reveal) were invited down to watch an exclusive screening of the show's first episode. We got to see Simon, Cheryl, Nick and Rita Ora in action and while the Radio 1 DJ caused quite a stir when he was announced as judge, we have to admit he certainly earns his title.

Despite the criticism surrounding Nick at first, Simon has openly defended his choice to appoint him as judge, but while he is a fan of Grimmy, he has now admitted it wasn't his idea to get him on board...

It was in fact Cheryl's!

This year, Cheryl has been given more power and taking on an executive producer role, she has been the force behind a few crucial changes to The X Factor this year.

When asked what exact changes Cheryl deserved credit for, Simon said: "Definitely Nick."

On hearing what his boss had to say, it was obvious Nick had no idea the 'Crazy Stupid Love' singer was behind his appointment, asking her: "Was that your decision, Cheryl?"

Simon was then quick to add that while it may have been Cheryl's initial idea he, of course, had the final say: "Well no, it was her idea and my decision."

Another idea Cheryl has driven this time round on The X Factor is for viewers to choose which judge will get each category. In an X Factor first, the public will vote to decide who will mentor which group of acts based on what they have seen at the show's auditions

The results of the vote will be revealed before the X Factor's Boot Camp stage, where we'll also see the return of the Six Chair Challenge. Once again, contestants have to sing for one of six spots at judges' houses.

Then, and we can't wait to see how they will pull this one off, the results of Judges' Houses will be announced live.

Speaking about the show's new format, Cheryl said: "I think it's going to be really good and really fun. It'll be good to get other people involved initially. People are then invested from that early on, so it'll be fun."

The X Factor kicks off this Saturday 29 August and Sunday 30 August on ITV.
