The photo is said to have shown her holding the Glitterball Trophy after winning Strictly Come Dancing last year, and the accompanying message read: "When someone who knows you more than anyone ruins the biggest day of your life."

She did not give any indication of who she was talking about.

Meanwhile, her alleged tweets to Sam Smith reportedly included: "You love to push that buttons."

A rep for Caroline declined to comment but a source claimed to The Sun that Caroline was upset about a photo posted by Sam Smith that showed her ex-boyfriend Jack Street, who is Sam's manager, sitting alongside a woman.

She has not confirmed that or that she sent the messages.

Another insider told Daily Mirror: "She has been gearing up for the X Factor launch for months. All she wants is for it to be a success and she felt she didn't need the drama."

Caroline and Jack split for a second time earlier this year.
