Love Island winner Max Morley has fuelled speculation, once again, the he has split with his co-star girlfriend Jess Hayes.

Since Jess and Max were crowned the winners of ITV2's dating show last month, the couple have been plagued by split rumours. While they openly admitted they had suffered a rocky patch, both Jess and Max assured fans everything was ok between them and they were "hopeful" they could work things out.

A cryptic tweet posted by Max earlier today, however, has now suggested that the pair have finally called it quits...

Taking to Twitter, 22-year-old Max tweeted: "We gave it our best shot."

While he didn't directly reference his romance with Jess, fans were quick to take Max's tweet as confirmation the pair have now gone their separate ways.

One user commented: "You two over then sorry to hear." While another said: "No way. Sad times."

Jess has since seemed to confirm the pair's break up. She shared a broken heart on Twitter, along with the message: "Some things are just not meant to be... #LoveIsland #JAX."

The couple's tweets come nearly two weeks after Max and Jess were pictured looking happier than ever together.

Posing on a night out together, the pair seemed to prove everything was back on track between them. Max had urged people to "stop getting involved" with his and Jess' relationship, after it was constantly questioned if they had broken up.

Trouble first arose for the reality stars after they were pictured having an argument in London. Following their row, Jess had tweeted she needed some time to think, before rekindling things with her beau.

At the time rumours had circulated suggesting TOWIE star Jessica Wright was the cause for Jess and Max's arguments, after Max was photographed at the same event as her on two occasions. She, however, has hit back at such claims, insisting Jess and Max's relationship woes were nothing to do with her.

"Seriously! Drop me OUT! Have NOTHING to do with anyone's relationship..." Jess tweeted. "I will not be made out to be a part of anything that I have absolutely nothing to do with. So STOP."

Jess and Max first got together while starring on Love Island. Their onscreen romance wasn't plain sailing, however, and Max soon left Jess to couple up with Naomi Ball.

After realising his mistake, he then told Jess she was the one he wanted to be with and after proving how much he was interested, Jess decided to give him another chance. They later made their romance official, with Max asking Jess to be his girlfriend on their final night in the villa.

Jess and Max are the second Love Island couple to break up following the show. Last week, Zoe Basia Brown confirmed she and Jordan Ring have now split from each other.

Updating fans, she said: "To all those who have asked Hulk and I are no longer together. Thanks so much for all your kind comments and messages throughout, wish him all the best #onwardsandupwards."
