Emmerdale star Michael Parr has thanked fans for their "overwhelming support".

It's been two weeks since Michael bowed out of the soap as bad boy Ross Barton after being killed by his brother Pete as part of the highly-praised summer fate storyline.

Whether Ross is really dead remains to be seen (social media is full of theories), but what's clear is that fans want Michael back.

We reported this week how soap fan Christopher Bell started a petition to bring Michael back as Ross, and it has now had more than 7000 signatures.

When a fan asked if Michael was "chuffed" with the petition, he replied: "It's been overwhelming. Thank you so much to everyone who signed. Very proud to have worked with Kate Oates."

Michael, who joined Emmerdale in 2013, announced via Twitter last week that he's already got a new job.

He tweeted (14 August): "Off to London now. Got a new job, can't say what it is but when we start rehearsals I'll let you know."
