Liam Payne has said the One Direction boys "need a break".

Ever since Zayn Malik left the band back in March to "be a normal 22 year old", which led to him launching his own solo career, the future of 1D has been plagued by rumours of a split.

However, it seems the remaining boys - Liam, Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson - just want a bit of a break from it all, which makes a lot of sense given how busy they've been.

Speaking during an interview with Free Radio, Liam, who seems to be the go-to 1D spokesperson recently, explained: "You know, I think everyone needs a little bit of a break now, and a sit down and a stop, to kind of take in all the great things that have happened."

And, Liam doesn't intend to spend his downtime playing Xbox and watching Jeremy Kyle, as he's already got a whole songwriting career in the works.

Liam told listeners: "I've been writing a lot on the road at the moment, not for me, just for other people.

"I've been doing a lot of things, you know, trying to get into the producing side of it which is pretty cool."

It's thought the boys will take some time off following the release of their fifth studio album later this year. The first single from the upcoming release 'Drag Me Down' has already stormed charts, reaching the No. 1 spot in 86 countries!
