Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards have split.

Zayn's rep confirmed to US Weekly that he and Little Mix singer Perrie are no longer engaged, with a source saying that Perrie is "devastated" about the end of their relationship.

Another source revealed that 22-year-old Zayn, who quit One Direction in March, "wanted to move on and start over in all ways".

According to People, Zayn contacted Perrie two weeks ago to say that it was over.

Another source said Perrie has been "putting on a brave face" while doing Little Mix promotional activities. "Perrie's being supported by her bandmates, but she's really in pieces about this," the source added.

Rumours that Zayn and Perrie had split intensified after her bandmate Jesy Nelson shared a picture of Perrie sunbathing without her engagement ring on.

Zayn and Perrie, who had been together for three years, got engaged in August 2013.

In March this year, Zayn responded to rumours of a split with Perrie after pictures emerged of him partying in Thailand with Lauren Richardson - who later went on to appear in Love Island.

Lauren denied anything ever happening, and Zayn also slammed accusations. He hit out at split reports, saying at the time: "I'm 22 years old... I love a girl named Perrie Edwards. And there's a lot of jealous f**ks in this world. I'm sorry for what it looks like."

Following Zayn's exit from One Direction, he and Perrie enjoyed a romantic break together in April, and appeared to be as loved up as ever as they shared photos via social media.

Just three weeks ago, Perrie said about Zayn on ITV's This Morning: "He's very good thank you… He's just chilling out a bit, and just doing his thing, and enjoying a bit of head space I would say."

Zayn, who quit One Direction to spend more time with Perrie and his family, signed a solo record deal last week with RCA Records.
