Sarah Harding won't be returning to Coronation Street, according to a new report.

The Girls Aloud star signed on to appear in four episodes of the ITV soap as new character Joni, the wife of Robert Preston.

According to The Sun, producers decided not to write further episodes for her character after some fans criticised her acting.

But a spokesperson for the show said Sarah's character had only ever been intended to appear for a short time. The rep said: "Sarah was cast for four episodes in a cameo role for a specific storyline. There are no immediate plans for the character of Joni to return."

Sarah sent a message to her critics earlier this week. She retweeted an article which said criticism of her was unfair alongside the caption: "AMEN."

She then said: "And on that note… I'd just like to say a massive THANK YOU, not only to my loyal hardcores and fans that continue to support me… but also an even BIGGER, SINCERE one to all the glorious haters out there!! You make me so much stronger and determined. So for that alone, I just can't thank you enough!"

Sarah's just the latest popstar-turned-actor to appear on Corrie, following Kym Marsh and Shayne Ward. She told us: "I think a lot of people who got their break on a TV talent show are all rounder entertainers. You kind of have to be in this industry. It's quite difficult sticking to one thing if you want to be constantly working."

She's currently promoting debut solo single 'Threads'.
