They apparently met after Sam saw a series of gushing tweets sent from Charlie. And, according to The Sun, the pair are said to have secretly visited quiet pubs and spent time at Sam's flat to avoid being seen together.
However, romance didn't blossom for 'Stay With Me' singer Sam and reality star Charlie, who decided two months ago to remain friends.
A source told the newspaper: "The pair hung out to discover if they were compatible. Friends have said nothing romantic happened because they decided they were better off as friends.
"Sam's schedule is incredibly hectic so their dates were very sporadic. They mutually decided in May that it wasn't going to work."
Charlie was introduced during the fourth series of TOWIE in 2012 as Gemma Collins' boyfriend, but their relationship didn't work out.
In October 2014, Charlie came out as gay during a live interview on ITV's This Morning. He said: "On that show, they followed my storyline which was very much about that subject because I never really knew where I belonged. I never really knew where I fitted in and it was something that I had to address and it's taken me a good few years to get here now and be able to say, I'm Charlie, I'm 29 years old, I'm a gay man and I'm very comfortable with that."
