Emma Watson has denied claims she was the target of a kidnap and robbery plot on the set of new movie Beauty and the Beast.

A report in a newspaper today claimed the Harry Potter actress was at the centre of a scary plan that was only unravelled when a taxi driver overheard the alleged plotters speaking in his own foreign language.

However, a rep for the movie studio where Beauty and the Beast is being filmed in the UK has denied the claims, saying Emma's perfectly safe.

A spokesperson added to MailOnline: "The story was looked into by production and found to be unsubstantiated and untrue."

Furthermore, a rep for Surrey Police said nothing had been reported to them.

Harry Potter actress Emma is currently filming a live action version of Disney's classic Beauty and the Beast. She plays Belle, the beautiful villager who encounters the terrifying beast in his castle. The beast was once a handsome prince who was cursed because of his arrogance.

Announcing her role earlier this year, a thrilled Emma said: "I'm finally able to tell you... that I will be playing Belle in Disney's new live-action Beauty and the Beast! It almost feels surreal that I'll get to dance to 'Be Our Guest' and sing 'Something There'. My six-year-old self is on the ceiling. Heart bursting."
