Soap fans were shocked on Friday (17 July) when a spokesperson for Hollyoaks announced that Stephanie's contract had been terminated with immediate effect.
Now, her agent has explained why the actress - who played Sinead O'Connor - was dropped so abruptly.
A statement reads: "Stephanie's contract was terminated following warnings for lateness, attendance and after a final incident in which she turned up to set unfit to work because of alcohol consumption."
Twenty-two-year-old Stephanie, who is dating First Dates star Sam Reece, has not publicly commented on the news.
But Hollyoaks co-star James Sutton reportedly made a dig at the sacking when he tweeted an image of the Wizard of Oz song 'Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead' playing on his iTunes.
Earlier this week, a Hollyoaks spokesperson said: "Stephanie Davis will no longer be filming Hollyoaks. Her contract has been terminated with immediate effect."
It was only in April that Stephanie confirmed she had signed a new 12-month contract with the soap.
The Liverpudlian actress found fame at 16 on Lord Andrew Lloyd-Webber's show Over The Rainbow.
She joined the soap in 2010. Some of her biggest storylines included her bullying plot with Esther Bloom, a prostitution story, and the death of Sinead's baby daughter Katy.
Last year she was nominated for the Best Actress award and Best Dramatic Performance at The British Soap Awards.
