Formula One racer Lewis was turned away from the exclusive VIP area ahead of Sunday's match between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic because he wasn't wearing a jacket, tie or shoes.
Speaking on ITV's Loose Women today, designer Laurence have his thoughts on the incident.
"I thought that was a bit petulant of him. When you get invited to the Royal Box, you're told from the outset, you need to wear a jacket and a tie. You're with Royalty, it's straightforward.
"To turn up and then not wear the tie they give... I thought that was a bit sulky, a bit teenage. Actually it's such a huge accolade to be invited to the Royal Box at Wimbledon for the final, to actually say 'no, I want to walk in dressed like that', I think it's really quite irritating."
That being said, the former Changing Rooms star confessed he has also fallen foul of dress code rules in the past.
"It has happened to me a couple of times," he said. "I've turned up to The Ritz and I haven't had a tie and they've given me one, so I actually keep donating ties to them to raise the bar slightly, just in case I forget again!"
A rep for Lewis said yesterday: "Due to an unfortunate misunderstanding regarding the dress code, Lewis is very disappointed to have missed the final."
Meanwhile, a Wimbledon spokesperson said: "If he was not adequately dressed, you could infer that he would not have been let in, but we do not comment on our guests. If he came without a jacket, tie or shoes he would have had two choices – not staying or going to get some extra stuff."
