Ed Sheeran is set to make his mark on the acting world having landed a new role in a pilot for a TV show.

'Thinking Out Loud' singer Ed, who wrapped up a three-night residency at Wembley Arena on Sunday, previously described the medieval show as "gruesome" and "really, really dark".

Elaborating on his acting part, Ed told Global Radio's Kevin Hughes: "I'm excited. I got the script through this week. It's not my show, it's my friends show, so I don't know how much he's told the press.

"I don't know how much I'm in it either but it's definitely a few episodes - and I don't get killed off, so that's good."

Ed is no stranger to acting, having made a cameo in popular Australian soap Home and Away in March, which will air later this year.

"I've always wanted to act in things," he continued. "I feel like people would expect me to be in a rom-com or something, so I want to be in something people don't expect me to."

Acting aside, Ed cleared up rumours over the weekend that he was dating Irish model Louise Johnston. Ed said he hadn't been in a relationship since splitting with girlfriend Athina Andrelos in March.

"It's actually non-existent at the moment," he told Capital FM. "I'm not in anything."
