Rita Ora has explained why she joined X Factor this year after previously suggesting the ITV talent show wasn't as good as The Voice UK.

The 'RIP' singer did a U-Turn in accepting an offer to be on the judging panel for X Factor's upcoming 12th series, despite previously comparing it unfavourably to The Voice UK, where she was a coach.

But speaking to ITV's Lorraine today, the star explained why she was now eager to be part of Simon Cowell's music show:

"When Simon approached me and he explained to me the show and what they are planning to do this year, I wanted to be a part of it. What's so great about the new line up - which is really exciting - is that you have four different perspectives, you know.

"You've got all these amazing musicians and business-minded people on the same panel that know music and I'm just happy to be a part of that."

When asked if her close friend Nick Grimshaw's decision to join the show had influenced her own decision, she replied: "It was the new line up, the plans that they have moving forward with the show, the changes, it just really got me excited.

"If I can find talent and help somebody I would, so for me it was perfect."

Rita and Nick will judge alongside Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Simon Cowell. Auditions filming kicks off next week with the show airing on ITV later this year.
