The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star – formerly known as Bruce – made her public debut as Caitlyn on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine this month.
Her mother Esther, 88, met her before the magazine was published.
Esther told People magazine: "When I first saw [Caitlyn], all I wanted to do was give her a big hug. It was such new information.
"It was a wonderful day. It takes so much courage to do what she's doing."
In a separate interview with Access Hollywood, Esther described her daughter as "beautiful" and said she appeared more at ease now.
She added that she's been struggling slightly with the name change but is adjusting. "It's going to be a struggle for me to get used to the change, but happily so… I'm very happy for her!"
Esther has always publicly voiced her support for Caitlyn. Back in February, she said she was more proud of Caitlyn now than when she won an Olympic gold medal in 1976.
