The X Factor audition room is to become a thing of the past, as Simon Cowell introduces a new judge... a massive audience!

We've already had the surprise of Dermot O'Leary leaving as host and being replaced by Olly Murs and Caroline Flack, and now there's another twist!

A show insider told The Sun that Simon Cowell is planning to bring back arena auditions only, for the new series of The X Factor.

Olly Murs and Caroline Flack confirmed as new X Factor hosts, 2015

Apparently "Simon always preferred the big arenas for the auditions as he likes having the audience there as a fifth judge." It's true, us X Factor fans do always know best.

That means waving goodbye to those intimate first auditions. Quite a shame really, it's always entertaining to watch a few auditionees making the judges squirm in an uncomfortable silence...

The X Factor will now follow the format we know and love from Britain's Got Talent, which means this years contestants will be thrown in at the deep end.

The wannabe popstars will have their first audition in front of the judges and be at the mercy of a very large audience. Like it wasn't nerve wracking enough!

If you fancy warbling your way to stardom in front of a crowd, Olly Murs has all the info you need (and fyi his own audition was in an arena, so it ain't all bad):
