The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star's best friend Kathie Lee Gifford spoke on yesterday's Today show about how Kris is coping with the change.
Kathie Lee addressed why Kris didn't appear on Bruce's transition interview with ABC News, when both his other ex-wives – Chrystie Crownover and Linda Thompson – spoke out.
She explained: "Let's be honest. The other ladies, both fine women, had a longer time to get used to this. This was new to Kris. She's trying to get her act together, trying to be a good friend to him now. Trying to still be a great parent.
"It's complicated in ways we can't even comprehend. We send our love and prayers to Bruce and his family."
Kathie Lee said she spoke with Bruce last week, but said that conversation will remain private. She is godparent to Kris and Bruce's children Kendall, 19, and Kylie, 17.
"We all want to know how to go forward," added Kathie Lee. "We all want to love him through his. We also know there are children that have to learn how to deal with this. The way you do is ultimately put love first. Put yourself in someone else's shoes – high heels, I suppose. The story isn't over, the transition goes on."
While Kris didn't appear on ABC News, she did send her love and support to Bruce via Twitter. She wrote: Not only was I able to call him my husband for 25 years and father of my children, I am now able to call him my hero."
Bruce confirmed he wishes to live as a woman during the interview, saying he'd struggled with gender since childhood. He started taking hormones in the 1980s but stopped after a few years.
