Claude Littner has joked that the candidates won't be happy with his job as Lord Alan Sugar's new advisor on The Apprentice.

It was announced on Monday that Claude will be taking over from Nick Hewer, who stepped down in December 2014 after 10 years.

Claude will now be Lord Sugar's eyes and ears alongside Baroness Karren Brady.

Taking to Twitter yesterday evening after the news was announced, Claude said: "Thank you all for very positive comments and for following. I am looking forward to the new role. Not sure the candidates will be happy!"

Should the candidates be worried?!

Claude is well known and loved by many Apprentice viewers, as for the last 10 years he has been grilling the candidates at the all-important interview stage.

However, according to last year's winner Mark Wright, Claude's sharp putdowns and direct but sometimes harsh approach is just one big act.

Mark recently said that Claude was "the loveliest guy", adding: "He is really supportive and so friendly. Maybe I just ruined his cover?!"

Claude has worked with Lord Sugar for 25 years and currently chairs a number of Lord Sugar's companies.

"If the candidates think I am soft and fluffy, they haven't been watching me on The Apprentice over the past decade," said Claude in a statement. "I will now be assessing their performance in the process, individually and within their teams.

"I will be reporting to Lord Sugar to play my part in ensuring that his personal investment of £250,000 goes to the best candidate. I'm ready, and this won't be a walk in the park!"
