Sam appeared on ITV's This Morning to discuss her latest book, Secrets And Lies. She said her documentation of the breakdown of her romance with Joey was in response to his book Being Reem.
Sam said: "When I signed my book deal, I read his book and there were so much stuff in there that I wanted to respond to. I hold my hands up in the book, which he didn't do in his. It was really unfair."
Speaking about their on and off romance, which came to an end for good last year, Sam added: "We were on and off for four years. What we had, we were in love and we did have fun when we were together."
Sam, who quit The Only Way Is Essex in March 2014, said having their relationship on screen hadn't been easy.
"The pressures of the TV show was really difficult," she admitted. "I put a lot of it down to age. It was constant arguing and battling with each other. I'm not going to sit here and blame him, I was just as bad."
Sam was also asked about the rift between families. As was seen on TOWIE, Joey's sister Frankie and cousin Chloe Sims came to his defence, while Sam's sister Billie was showing support for her.
"I can laugh at it now, and I'm sure he can as well," she continued. "It was so up and down. There was a stage, not in the later times, but when we were engaged that they did [his family] get involved a lot, even friends, everyone around me... That was really hard to deal with."
Excepts from Sam's book have already been published, where she called her relationship with Joey "toxic".
Former Celebrity Big Brother star Sam is currently in a relationship with property developer Paul Day. Elsewhere, Joey revealed last month that he was seeing someone but has yet to reveal the mystery girl's identity.
