Michelle first announced she was set to leave Corrie last year.
After starring on the show as her character Tina for six years, the actress decided it was time to move on from the soap and try her hand at different things.
And while Michelle had first hoped the door would be left open for her at Coronation Street, Tina was killed off in a major 'who dunnit' storyline.
Now, looking back on her exit, Michelle admits "it was definitely the right way to go" and has said she is "in debt" to the soap for kickstarting her career.
After filming her final scenes in April last year, she tweeted: "I'll be forever in debt to Coronation Street and ITV for giving me the role of Tina, I'm going to miss her, and everyone at Corrie... Today has been one of the most overwhelming days I've ever had."
Since then, Michelle has returned to our screens, making her post-Corrie debut on BBC drama Ordinary Lies.
The show tells the story of an ordinary group of people working at a car showroom, but each one has told a lie that spirals out of control. Viewers saw Michelle's character Tracy Shawcross - a receptionist - get caught up in a drug smuggling deal and she was left to face the consequences when her friend was arrested at customs and never returned home.
After her episode aired, Michelle received plenty of praise and her fiancé Mark Wright was one of the first to congratulate her on her performance.
Taking to Twitter, the former TOWIE star gushed about his wife-to-be, tweeting: "Love everyone saying how amazing @michkeegan is doing on ordinary lies !! Proudest husband to be alive !! The girl is born talent. #true."
Michelle has now landed her first movie role in gritty new loan shark film Strangeways Here We Come.
Speaking about her character Demi, Michelle admitted she is "totally different" to any other character she has played before.
We can't wait to see her in action!
